1999
- Office of Legal Affairs (OLA) conceived on the recommendation of the Special Task Force on Enhancing Good Governance under RCSC.
- Dasho Tashi Phuntshog appointed Director General.
2000
- OLA was formally established on 14 April as the central legal agency of the Government.
- Prosecutorial functions transferred from RCSC and Ministry of Home Affairs.
2001
- Briefly renamed Department of Legal Affairs.
- Dasho Kuenlay Tshering appointed Director; name reverted to Office of Legal Affairs.
2006
- Council of Ministers resolved to establish the Office of the Attorney General as per Office of the Attorney General Act, 2006.
- Dasho Damcho Dorji appointed first Attorney General.
2008
- Blueprint for current OAG structure developed.
2010-2015
- Internal restructuring aligned with constitutional mandate.
- Construction of the current OAG office building completed.
2015
- enactment of new Office of the Attorney General Act repealing OAG 2006
- Introduced Rules of Procedure and Case Screening Corpus.
- Re-organized office structure with two director-led departments.
